RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

It has been quite informative and for all those that had positive input on the subject of modified air intake filters I thank you. We originally went to K&N filters after reviewing some of the input from this very forum. But we can see now that was a mistake, but thankfully we got through it unscathed. Thanks again for all those that contributed to this post I think we've covered this very well. Reg

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

17 hours to remove a FAN!!!!OMG me thinks someone is blowing sunshine up your backside! God they could have pulled the engine and preformed all the work on an engine stand then reinstalled it in less then 17 hours! Even if the bolts were rusted they could have used a 90* air grinder with a cut off wheel to remove the heads then drilled the bolts and used an EZ-Out to remove them! Not only did this dealer LIE to you but they also ripped off the warrantee company. Like you said “Good diesel mechanics I understand are hard to find” sounds like this dealer needs to keep looking. Don Don first there's only one bolt and it is 1 ". If they are blowing sunshine up someone's backside. That would be Ford and I am pretty sure Ford will be able to represent their side of this very well. Reg. Note: If it sounds like I'm trying to defend the dealership and Ford on this matter it is true I am.

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

It was not $ 4000.00 to clean the filter in fact they did not have to change the filter as that was brand new we just put it back on to replace the K&N filter. They did replace the sender on the air intake. To Replace the clutch fan, they had to cut it off with a torch as it would not break lose they tried impact wrench and every thing. That process ruined the water pump and they know that was going to be damaged when they torched it. The connecting housing on the turbocharger was shot and would not seal properly had to be replaced. They had to fix a small water leak and replace a couple of hoses. They replaced the EPA valve and connector; I know that the parts were 300.00 for that. The mechanic had 17 hours replacing the clutch fan alone. Then the turbocharger had to be taken off and cleaned. In today’s world it doesn’t take long for the bill to add up. They charge 99.00 pr hour for the diesel mechanic. The prices they charge today seem very extreme, probably because we are retired and out the main stream and haven’t felt the inflation and recession like most. The only think we will do is purchase an extended warranty that we have some control over. Instead of waiting and taking a chance on a huge repair bill likes this. Also not modify any parts that would cause Ford to disallow warranty. (Rog85546 ) hit the nail on the head how Ford would handle the warranty issue with the attorneys. Good diesel mechanics I understand are hard to find and after seeing some of the trucks he was doing with complete engine replacements, I think they are a little short of being a “genius” on this stuff. The point is have warranty insurance. Reg

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

Ok we just picked up the “Truck for the second time this week for warranty work on the extended warranty and boy is it running good. It acts like a new truck, they said they just cleaned the Turbocharger boy does it have a lot of power at takeoff. They Invoiced Ford for about 4000.00. The 1700.00 we paid for the extended warranty was a good investment this time. The total bill was 232.00 to us which included my deductible; they also gave us a rental for three days. Reg Factory filter for us from now on.

RE: Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel Fuel in Mexico

Sounds correct, but mode point for us as we have a 2004 F-350 that has been burning LSD in Mexico for two years and warranty is not an issue on our Truck. In fact we have had about 3600.00 worth of warranty work done last week. The Truck has been very, very good with the exception of Factory upgrades we only had the Truck if for repair one time in 4 1/2 years. "Ford Tough" So we will not purchase a new 2008 F-350 this year. I think this is a plus for us, the truck is paid for so we will see what happens in 2009. Never know might be ULSD fuel in Mexico and we will purchase a new 2009 or not. We are not afraid of the LSD fuel in Mexico. Reg Regulation NORM082 says, because governments can always change their minds, extend the implimentation period, etc Hmm sounds like the old USA goverment!!

RE: Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel Fuel in Mexico

The real question is what is it exactly that Regulation NORM082 makes Pemex do and what is the time frame. Reg

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

1 & 2- They will go 100k and a light comes on when needed. It works! When getting near 100k just replace it. I did not know the filter would go 100,000 miles I thought more like 10,000. miles. REg

No more K&N for us this is the one we will use in the future priced right a 53.00. Yes it is a little hard to install but you can’t beat the Ford engineers for design sometimes. RE: Purchased F450 today, should I get extended warranty?

We purchased an extended 75000 mile warranty and the work we have done so far this week came to 17 hours and 903.00 in parts. Plus they are now taking the Blower off to check it and clean it. The bill will probably run about 3600.00 For us “Boy are we glad we purchased it” Plus you sleep better about it. Reg This was a Ford warranty we purchased on the Internet at the Ford authorized web site.

RE: 2008 Ford diesel - low MPG?

Have a friend who has a 08 F350 crew cab PSD and he gets 16 hwy and 10/11 when towing his 35' King of the Road 5er. None of the new diesels are getting decent mileage. Sorry, I have trouble believing this, maybe down hill Reg

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

So I went to pick up the truck yesterday, and they could not get the clutch fan off had to cut it off with a “Torch”. The water pump was damaged in the process so it had to be replaced as well. Told me to come back today to pick up the truck. Well I did only to find out it had no power on take off. Brought it back in and they determined that the Blower had carbon build up, and could not open at low speeds. They are going to take it off and clean It. tommorow, The reason we did not notice it before is we had a leak of air on the seal of the back hose of the blower and it was letting air in. Non filtered air I guess so I guess the K&N subject is a mode point when you have air coming in unfiltered. The truck is supposed to be ready tomorrow we will keep the forum posted. Reg

RE: Direct TV in MX ??

With a 30" dish I was able to get two transponders which gave me 7 channels as far south as Puerto Vallarta. Luke, what kind of dish did you use we are trying to purchase one now to take back with us. We thought the DirecWay Internet dish might work. We can get some of the channels but now all on the 18". I would like to know if anyone has tried the Direcway Internet dish for Direct TV. It is quite a bit larger and looks like it would work for San Carlos. Reg

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

The #1 reason I would never use a K&N filter is their own warranty. They state in writing that they will not be liable for any damages caused directly or indirectly by the use of a K&N filter. And that's only for the first million miles. If they don't have any more faith in their own product than that, I don't either. Hannibal, good point, I agree, K&N needs to stand by there product! I think K&N losses creditability on this and I will not buy there product until they stand behind it. Reg

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

The OP wasn't told the warranty was void, just that Ford's diagnostic computer wouldn't give the correct results. Changing the airflow will always impact the emission control systems and that sounds like where he was having the problem. Your are correct David, this was there request for making a test. But they would not work on it unless we put the OEM filter back on. Reg We noticed the the 2008 filters are much easier to replace.
